Q: What might I read to help me become more knowlegeable about computers?
A: For me, my number one Website is Pcworld.com or PcMagazine.com.
I frequent these websites because there they help me to learn about new Software before it's released and those that have already been released. It also helps me to choose a correct monitor, hard drives and printers and much, much more hardware and software alike. Another feature of these sites are free downloads to Virus Checkers, Utilities, and lots of other gadgets which can help simply your daily computer use. Check the above mention sites and I promise you will not regret it. Under the review section, it rates them and gives you the pros and the cons.
Q: Where can I learn more about products I might want to buy?
A: Where else! But another favorite site of mine is Cnet.com. Cnet has been around for a long time and most people use it to read up on reviews of almost anything you may need to buy. This is not just limited to computer items. It various from kitchen appliances to television and a whole slue of items. This is yet another site which has a download page which I would not be doing you justice if I did not mention it. For you can find a whole slue of things there.
Q: I need a Digital camera! Where can I go?
A: That is the age old question most people who want to come into the digital age ask. My response is Megapixel.net. Yes! There is where I go for all my camera needs. It tells me all about the cameras and how they function. It rates them and even gives you different websites where you can buy them. This is the complete one stop!
Q: Are there any sites out there where I can just find the price and the best place to buy my product?
A: Yes! There are a couple of sites I use most often. There are PriceGrabber.com, DealCatcher.com, BizRate.com. These sites offer items such as, coupons and places you can buy the items, and how much it costs. It is not only computer items you can buy here. There gives you the price of lots of different products.
Q: Do I need to do the windows update?
A: The answer is yes. Why? Because if you don’t, there is still a likelihood of some crashing, or invading your computer, although you may have a very good virus checker!
Q: Do I need antivirus software/Spyware/Antiphishing on my computer?
A: The answer to this question is absolutely “Yes” and here is why.
In today’s computer age, every computer needs Antivirus/Spyware/Antiphishing software and there are many of these types of programs available. Our recommendation is to use Norton Internet Security (the latest version) or Nortons 360 which is even better if you have the extra money. By the latest version, we mean that every year Symantec (the company that makes Norton) comes out with an updated version of their software program. Examples include Norton Internet Security 2006, Norton Internet Security 2007, and Norton Internet Security 2008. The reason for choosing Norton Internet Security is because it is not only a virus checker but it also protects computers from Spyware and Phishing programs, whose main goals are to track your surfing habits for advertising purposes and to lure you to phony or scam websites that look similar to the ones that you are trying to access. We also recommend that you update your virus checker every year.
Virus checkers are critical because, if one is not installed on your computer, usually somewhere between two weeks to a month following a connection to the internet, your computer may become infected with a virus. We usually recommend that you purchase a virus checker from a store. The reason being that if you cannot connect to the internet, if there is a problem at the designated website to download the virus checker software or if your computer freezes while downloading the software, then you may become frustrated and abandon the idea of purchasing virus checker software. However, this would not be a good idea because although we have repeatedly advised our clients to purchase this type of software and to consistently update it, inevitably many people fail to heed this advice and we are contacted because their computer is either running slowly or pop-up advertisements are constantly displayed when they are surfing the internet. Unfortunately, in many cases, in order to fix such problems we must reinstall all of their computer software programs because viruses are very difficult to remove. In extreme cases, we may also need to reinstall their entire operating system. We then remind our clients that if they had simply heeded our advice, then the time it took to fix their computers and the costs incurred could have been avoided had they initially purchased virus checker software, downloaded necessary updates, and replaced the software every year with the latest version of the software package.
